A 6th grade Accelerated English/Language Arts teacher at Lied Middle School in Las Vegas, NV describes me professionally. Lied has been my home since 2007 when I gave up my position as a stay-at-home mom and substitute teacher, to make a difference in the lives of middle school students full-time. It was at that time that I found a new passion for Publications/Yearbook, which has truly and literally changed the way I look at the world. Everything is a possible yearbook page, design, headline, caption, photo, or theme. During my first two years at Lied, I taught English 6 Accelerated, English 6, Reading 6 Accelerated, Math Accelerated, and Publications. After surviving the insanity of five preps, I was blessed to settle into Language Arts only.
I hold an elementary education license and am High Qualified in Language Arts. Participation in the Nevada Pathway Project was my gateway into the tech world, and I am currently the Canvas Controller on my campus as well as an Infinite Campus Power User. Taking classes year round to better my "game" is another passion of mine. As I started this late-in-life career over eight years ago, I decided not to move forward a master’s degree because I was 49 years old at the time. This has granted me the opportunity to take a diverse array of classes from reading and writing strategies to my current commitment to the Online and Blended Learning world. Foregoing the master’s degree was a good choice.
The reason I am working to obtain certification for Online Blended Learning is because I am intrigued by technology, amazed at how it can move students toward deeper engagement and ownership in their own learning, and continuing to strive to make a difference for my students. I see online and blended learning as the direction education is going and therefore I will be part of it.
